What actually changes between 2025 and 2026 on Form 1099-DA?
I keep reading that 2025 was the first Form 1099-DA year and that 2026 adds basis reporting, but the explanations contradict each other. My LLC received a 2025 statement that lists sale proceeds and nothing else, and our accountant says next year the broker will do the gain calculation for us.
Is that right? What exactly is phased in for 2025 versus 2026, and can I really rely on the broker's numbers going forward?
