We have two foreign sellers on one deed. Do we need one FIRPTA statement or two?
My brother and I are both nonresident sellers on the same U.S. property sale. The closing company is handling the deal, but different people on the team are giving different answers on whether one FIRPTA statement is enough because it is one transaction, or whether each foreign seller needs separate seller paperwork. That matters because our ownership percentages are not the same.
I want the credit trail to be clean for both of us later. If the IRS expects one seller statement per person subject to withholding, we need that reflected in the file before anything gets mailed.
