How do I tell the difference between a normal IRS processing delay and a case that is becoming a Taxpayer Advocate issue?
I do not want to escalate too early and look impatient, but I also do not want to sit quietly while a real process breakdown gets worse. We have already responded through normal channels and are now stuck in a long stretch of silence. The difficulty is that I know some IRS timelines are just slow, so I do not want to confuse normal waiting with a case that is actually outside the rails.
What I need is a calm standard for when the file changes character. If the problem becomes a TAS candidate only when the delay is beyond normal processing or starts causing real harm, I want to judge it that way rather than react emotionally to every extra week.
